Saudi Crown Prince Voices Concerns Over Assassination Risks Ahead of Potential Saudi-Israeli Normalization Talks: Report
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has reportedly expressed concerns about the personal risks he faces in pursuing a historic diplomatic agreement with the United States and Israel, which could result in the normalization of Saudi-Israeli relations.
According to a report by Politico, the Crown Prince has privately shared these concerns with members of the U.S. Congress, warning that such a move could put his life in danger.
In the conversations mentioned in the report, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman referenced the assassination of Anwar Sadat, the former Egyptian President who was killed in 1981 after signing a peace treaty with Israel. The Crown Prince reportedly questioned what the United States did to protect Sadat, highlighting his concerns about facing similar threats if he proceeds with normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
These concerns have grown stronger in light of the recent conflict in Gaza, which has sparked widespread anger toward Israel across the Arab world.
Despite the risks, the Crown Prince remains committed to advancing the diplomatic process. The report, citing a former U.S. official and two other sources familiar with the discussions, indicates that while Crown Prince Mohammed is fully aware of the potential dangers, he is determined to continue efforts to formalize relations with Israel.
